Capitol Update Week 8 – 7 Years Fighting for You
House passes significant bills this week . . . House Bill 65, by Rep Allen Peake, expands Georgia’s medical cannabis law by adding eight qualifying medical conditions including Tourette’s syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, Alzheimer’s disease, and AIDS to those already in existence. HB 65 maintains the maximum 5% THC level. I voted YES. House Bill 245, by Rep Al Williams, streamlines the process too allow military spouses to qualify for temporary certificates to better facilitate their entry into Georgia’s workforce. HB 245 passed unanimously. House Bill 329, by Rep Jay Powell, flattens Georgia’s six income tax brackets into one, reduces the top rate from 6% to 5.4%, provides an Earned Income Tax Credit for low wage earners, and indexes for inflation the standard deduction. As I proud co-sponsor on this tax cut, I voted YES. Additionally, the House passed this week:
HB 225 clarifying the Uber / Lyft are responsible for paying the existing sales tax on transportation services and NOT their drivers. As a co-sponsor, I voted YES.
